Abiyogenez hipotezi cansızlardan canlı oluşur iddiasıdır. Gaya hipotezi doğru kabul edilirse abiyogenez hipotezi doğru olamaz. Çünkü gaya hipotezine göre coğrafik varlıklar ve onları oluşturan coğrafik parçacıklar canlıdır. Diğer bir ifadeyle, coğrafik parçacıklardan biyolojik hücreler oluşabilir ama bu olay abiyogenez değildir aksine biyogenezdir.
