Sofist bir filozoftur. Kelimelerin doğruluğuna çok önem verir ve sinonimlerle uğraşırdı. Prodikos, sofistleri “filozoflarla hitabetçiler arasındaki sınır bölgede yer alan insanlar” olarak tanımlamıştır. Protagoras’ın yolunu takip etmiştir. Şöyle söyler Prodikos: “Tartışmak dostların dostlarla ve iyi niyetle yaptığı konuşma sanatıdır. Çatışma ise düşmanlarla ve kötü niyetle olur” Prodikos’a göre tartışma sanatı en güzel sözlerle karşısındakini kandırmak ve ona üstün gelmekle anlam bulur.
