Selimiye camii ile alakali daha onceki paylasimda Mimar Sinan'in akil almaz matematik becerisinden bahsetmistim.
Simdi ise bir top izinden bahsetmek istiyorum.
Edirne tarihi itibari ile bir cok ulke tarafinda isgal edilmis bolge olma ozelligini korumaktadir. Her ne kadar 1361 yilinda fetih edilsede Osmanli himayesindeyken 3 kere isgal edildi. Bunlardan 2 si ruslar tarafindan 1 i ise Bulgarlar tarafindan yapilmistir.
Balkan savaslari ile zor gunler geciren Edirne, 9 Ekim 1912'de Bulgarlar tarafindan kusatildi. Donemin Osmanli komutani olan Sukru pasa 6 ay boyunca sure gelen kusatmada direnmeye calisti. 26 Mart 1913 de Edirne teslim oldu.
Ataturk Edirne ziyaretinde Selimiye Camii'ne ugrar, camiinin almis oldugu top hasarlarini gorunce emir verir;
- Bu yara asla onarilmayacak ve alinacak ocun nisanesi olarak saklanacaktir.
O gunden beri Selimiye Camii'nde bulunan bir cok top izi restore edilmistir, biri haric.
